Chinese Herbal Medicine

  • One of the most sophisticated herbal medicine systems in the world
  • Always been considered pre-eminent amongst the various methods of healing within Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM]
  • CHM is practiced extensively throughout clinics and hospitals in China alongside Western medicine
  • Considerable research into many aspects of TCM has been conducted in China and the West, proving its efficacy and merit
  • CHM is great for both the preventive and remedial treatment of various diseases
  • Preventive herbal formulas may be used to prevent recurrent respiratory tract infections, ear infections, asthma, allergic rhinitis etc..
  • Decoctions, powders, pills, syrups and medicinal wines are the main ways to administer Chinese herbs
What can Chinese Herbal Medicine treat?
Chinese herbal medicine is able to treat a wide range of acute and chronic disease, including:

  • Respiratory conditions: Asthma, bronchitis, chronic coughs, allergic rhinitis and sinusitis
  • Children's diseases: Hay fever, bed wetting, ear infections, ADHD, colic, tonsillitis, asthma, eczema
  • Skin disease: Eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, urticaria
  • Gastro-intestinal disorders: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), chronic constipation, diarrhoea, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease
  • Gynaecological conditions: Pre-menstrual syndrome, painful periods, infertility, endometriosis
What to Expect?

After a thorough diagnosis each person is prescribed an individual formula (typically 10-15 ingredients) correlated to an individual’s pattern of internal disharmony. Formulas are crafted together to act synergistically and every ingredient is designed to accomplish a part of the overall process of restoring balance. Upon return visits, the herbal formula is adjusted or modified as the patient’s condition changes. The cost of herbal medicine depends on the weight of the individual. The daily dosage of herbal medicine is usually 1-2 grams per kilogram. Please contact your local clinic to determine the approximate cost of herbal medicine per day for you.

How many clinical visits will I need?

The total number of treatments needed varies from person to person, partly depending on the length and severity of the condition, partly on the general health & well-being of the client. Initially, the patient will be followed on a weekly basis for the first month and then gradually the times between visits will be lengthened to fortnightly.

Is Chinese herbal medicine safe?

Yes, Chinese herbal medicine is very safe for both children and adults but certain factors must be considered in order to ensure this safety. The Asthma Clinic goes above and beyond to ensure their safety and members of our team would be pleased to discuss all of the safety measures we have taken to achieve our goal of delivering Chinese Herbal medicine in a safe and effective manner.
